Nigerians blast INEC on Twitter over elections shift

The Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to postpone the 2019 elections has been met with anger on social media.

According to INEC, the elections were rescheduled because of logistic issues as the body claimed it was facing difficulty distributing sensitive electoral materials to some states of the federation.

The chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, read a five-paragraph statement at 2:50 am on Saturday attributing the decision to logistic reasons but refused to entertain any question.

Nigerians have been reacting to the postponement, labelling the decision as terrible, inconveniencing and more.

I’m sitting there in front of the TV, waiting for the promised INEC announcement on the elections. They’ve taken a decision, but it will be announced to us “later today”. REALLY?!! It’s 1.40 am! Elections should hold in about 6 hours! What on earth is going on?!!!

Mr. President was already in Daura in Katsina State and the VP already in Lagos to vote this morning before the postponement just announced by INEC. This is truly disappointing, but the march to the Next Level continues. Nigeria will prevail

Kai INEC! A lot of people traveled to cast their vote today, some for many hours and some from abroad, but you did such a thing just few hours to the polls. Terrible!

If the numbers announced by @inecnigeria for official interactions around the elections could lie about the elections holding today, are we still expected to have confidence in INEC? We don’t deserve this multibillion-naira mediocrity!

INEC, you always have four years to prepare for Corper’s being used for elections. All the money gotten for elections, why can’t you provide suitable accommodation for a night? Why do you treat graduates like this? Is it a crime to serve Nigeria?

This is a video clip of the INEC chairman formally announcing the postponement of the Saturday presidential election. You had 4 years to prepare for this. Plus, you assured the world that you were ready, and pple traveled from far and near for this election. This is unacceptable.

Does INEC have any other remit? Like do they organize owambe weekly in addition to organizing elections periodically?

One Job!
