Paris Saint-Germain reportedly want to sell Real Madrid and Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe this summer to avoid losing him for nothing in 2024.

Mbappe reportedly told PSG earlier this month he has no intention of triggering the one-year extension in his contract next year, meaning he can leave on a free transfer.

This shocked the Parisien club’s hierarchy, who have been forced to make a huge decision regarding the player’s future.

It quickly became evident that the French champions would try to get Mbappe to sign a new contract, and if he was unwilling to do so they would try and sell him this summer.

Real Madrid have been linked with the 24-year-old since he broke onto the scene at Monaco in 2016. Los Blancos came very close to landing Mbappe on a free transfer in 2022 before he committed his future to PSG.

As soon as it was revealed Mbappe could be available for free in 2024, Madrid once again became strongly linked with a move. It is unclear, however, if they will spend big on him this year or wait to try and get him for nothing.

While Madrid’s stance is unclear, PSG’s is not. According to French outlet Foot Mercato, the Ligue 1 club’s hierarchy ‘wants to sell Mbappe’ and expect to receive a mind-boggling fee ‘between €180-200m’.

The report says Madrid ‘already have an agreement’ with the French forward, who is ready to give his all in 2023/24 for his current club before joining the Spanish giants.

There has been ‘no contact’ between the two clubs, with PSG reluctant to make the first move ‘in order to remain in a position of strength in the negotiations’.

Mbappe is ‘happy to spend another year in Paris’, with a €90m loyalty bonus headed his way in September if he does remain in the French capital.

This report comes on the same day it was claimed by a FIFA agent that Liverpool are competing with Madrid for Mbappe’s signature.

Marco Kirdemir told Spanish publication Marca: “There will be news over the next week. We will have news from England and Germany.

“Liverpool is competing with Real Madrid and wants to pay a fortune for Mbappe, that fortune would be around 300 million.”
