A Group under the auspice of the Matasan Hausa Development Initiative has expressed dismay over the social media onslaught and the campaign of calumny against the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), and its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, championed by extraneous forces benefiting illegally from the system.

This was contained in a statement by the group with its Headquarters in Kano State, and made available to the media in Kaduna  on 28th January, 2023.

The  statement signed by Alh. Mohammed Saidu, Grace Sankut, Zagi Ahmed and Inuwa Idris National President, Women Coordinator, Chairman Integrity Committee, and Chairman Focus Youth Committee, respectively  stated that the campaign is aimed at tarnishing the hard earned reputation of the CBN Governor.

According to the statement, the  action of the CBN is in line with the act that set up the Apex Bank, which empowers it to determine the value of the Naira.

The Matasan Hausa Development Initiative, bound by an irrevocable commitment to canvassing and protecting the overall interest of the Hausa Nation where ever they reside further stated that the pull him down campaign is not in the interest of Nigeria, but a carefully orchestrated mischief making attempt to pull the wool over the faces of Nigerians by claiming to act in the interest of Nigeria.

The Group also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to deploy the instrumentality of his office to protect the CBN governor from every harassment and distraction from criminal elements who are milking the country dry through their nefarious activities.

“We urge all well meaning Nigerians to support the CBN Governor to continue to discharge his duties without any distractions and intimidation.

“We also call on the law enforcement agencies to investigate the activities and proprietors of the so called “aboki fx” with a view to bringing to book if found to have contravened the laws of the Country.

“Unsuspecting Nigerians are advised to be very discerning and should refrain from lending their voices to support illegalities and criminalities no matter how veiled.

“Appeals to the Central Bank of Nigeria to consider extension of the time given for the swapping of the Naira notes in Nigeria. The extension will enable our small business owners that are mostly in rural areas to meet up and to overcome the challenges, ” the statement reads
