The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) Kaduna State Chapter has stated that surveyors are indispensable experts needed for accuracy in infrastructural planning and development across all sectors of the nation.

The NIS State Chairman, Surv. Daudu Andrew made this assertion during a press conference to commemorate the 2023 Surveyors Global Day held in Kaduna on March 21, 2023.

He urged Nigerians to always engage qualified surveyors in their building projects to avoid incidents of building collapse.

Surv. Daudu Andrew explained that surveyors and survey plans were crucial in any building construction all over the world.

The NIS Chairman advised surveyors to take their rightful place as the bedrock of development while calling on all professionals in the construction industry to restrict practice areas of competencies.

However, he expressed dismay over not being carried along by the government but said the institution is working tirelessly to turn the clock around and accord surveyors their right places by the government.

He said that many people do not know the importance of surveyors in their building projects, and Surveyor’s Day is a day set aside to sensitize people about the roles of surveyors in anything construction-related.

He stated that professional architects and town planners always work with and work on surveyors’ plans to get their work done perfectly, and surveyors are essential in building constructions.

“Before you can build a house, you need a survey plan. The survey plan is what the architect will design. Also, before contractors start building, the surveyor will still come to set out the building, and even after completion of the building, if the building is a high rise, the surveyor will check the alignment, both vertical and horizontal, then begin to monitor the building in case the building is tilting or sinking. In summary, a surveyor had to be involved in any building and road construction,” he said.

As part of the celebration, the institution donated food items, beverages, toiletries, and more support orphanages in Kaduna.

Speaking at the Magaji Gari orphanage Surv. Daudu Andrew said the donations are in line with their orphanage support and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative,

A representative of Magajin Gari Orphanage in Kaduna State stated, “NIS, we are very grateful for your continued support to the orphanage.
