Ahead of the composition of leadership of the Upper and Lower Chamber, a group under the auspices of Arewa Young Professionals in Politics has called on the National Working Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and the President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu to zone the Senate Presidency to the South East and the Speaker to the North West.
The Convener of the Group, Mallam Yusuf Idris Amoke, asserted this during a press conference held in Kaduna yesterday.
The group said such a wise decision by APC leadership will ensure inclusiveness and fairness, saying it is important that they ensure power is distributed fairly across the nation.
Mallam Yusuf Idris Amoke added that this will foster a sense of belonging to every region and religion and prevent any divisive tension that could undermine the government’s effectiveness.
“Zone the Senate Presidency to the South East for greater political inclusion and the Speakership to the North West as compensation for their significant role in the emergence of the government.
“Ensure that the leadership of the national assembly projects our religious diversity for national cohesion.
“These steps will go a long way in promoting unity and national integration.
“We implore the APC leadership and the President-elect to employ wisdom in making these decisions. This will foster a sense of belonging to every region and religion, and prevent any divisive tension that could undermine the government’s effectiveness,” he said.
