Friday Olokor, Abuja

The Nigerian Baptist Conference in the Federal Capital Territory has called on the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to resolve their differences with a view to reopening the Universities as soon as possible.

A statement on Monday said the conference comprises Baptist churches in the Federal Capital Territory and adjourning states.

The NBC made the plea in a communique signed by its President, Dr Israel Akanji and Chairman, Dr Idowu Akintola, during its just concluded 5th annual session at the First Baptist Church, Garki and the National Christian Centre, Abuja.

The communique which was sent by the Public Relations Officer of the NBC in FCT, Adebayo Oladeji, said “the ongoing closure of the universities is unacceptable and unjustifiable.”

The document reads partly, “We note with dismay and concern the frequent and over-prolonged ASUU strikes which have caused untold hardship to the students, their parents and the lecturers in the Nigerian public universities.”
