Man United vs Everton: Why Varane, Sancho were absent -Solskjaer

Four goals in front of a lively Old Trafford crowd pleased Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as Manchester United completed pre-season in the most emphatic of manners.

The boss gave his reaction after an entertaining game, speaking about the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, the fitness of Jesse Lingard, Dean Henderson and Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire’s headers.

Asked why Jadon Sancho was absent, the coach said, “The medical with Raphael [still] has to be done. He’s isolating at the moment. He had to wait for visas, so unfortunately that took a few more days than expected but we’re going to follow the protocols and the rules, so it’s taken a few more days than we hoped for. Jadon is in for Monday and hopefully then he’s in decent nick and can be involved [against Leeds].”

All eyes were on Old Trafford as Manchester United faced Everton in front of 55,000 fans and countless supporters watching on MUTV – including Jadon Sancho and our prospective new signing Raphael Varane.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men produced a sparkling performance at Old Trafford in the final friendly of our pre-season campaign, brushing aside a Premier League opponent with impressive ease.

Mason Greenwood opened the scoring with a neat finish following an error by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, before Harry Maguire executed a bullet header from Luke Shaw’s corner to double our advantage.

Bruno Fernandes was making his first appearance of the summer and our Portuguese magnifico showed no signs of rust, particularly when unleashing a vicious free-kick that flew into the top corner.

Second-half substitute Diogo Dalot then put a cherry on top with a looping header late on.

Bruno’s amazing set-piece sparked a huge ovation from the delighted Old Trafford crowd and, of course, sent ripples among fans reacting to the game on social media.

Those included our summer signing from Borussia Dortmund, Sancho, who is expected to join the squad after the weekend.
