Man commits suicide by jumping on Abuja rail track

The police in the Federal Capital Territory are presently trying to ascertain the identity of a middle-aged man, who was crushed to death by a train in Phikwore area of Kubwa, a satellite town in the FCT on Monday.

It was gathered that the police were treating the incident as a suicide following reports that the unidentified man jumped onto the rail track as the train was passing through.

The man was said to have been cut in pieces by the locomotive.

His remains were subsequently evacuated to the Kubwa General Hospital morgue.

The Kubwa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Surajdeen Ayobami, confirmed the tragedy to our correspondent on Tuesday, adding that a suicide note was found in the victim’s pocket.

He said, “We found a note in his pocket in which he prayed for Nigeria and Nigerians; he also asked his family for forgiveness over his inability to cater for them. There was a phone number on the note, but the police could not reach the contact.

“We have been calling the number, but it is not connecting; we believe we will be able to identify the deceased if we can reach the person whose number was found on the suicide note.”
