London-to-Lagos driver, Pelumi, becomes Lagos tourism ambassador, donates car to Cultural Centre

Twenty-eight-year-old UK-based Nigerian travel content creator and solo driver, Pelumi Nubi, has donated the car used for her trip to the J Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History

In January, Pelumi announced plans to travel from London to Lagos by road, and after 68 days on the road, she arrived in Lagos on Sunday, April 7, 2024, and was welcomed by the Hon Commissioner of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, and the Special Adviser, Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Idris Aregbe.

She travelled across 17 countries, through England, France, Spain, Morocco, and the West Sahara Desert.

On Monday, Pelumi was hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at the state house, Ikeja.

During the event, the governor announced Pelumi as Tourism ambassador for the state. He also announced a car, and house gift for her, with the promise to cover bills incurred during her trip.

He also urged her to go on a tour around the state to “tell the Lagos story” she has seen.

“We want you to take time to actually check the sound and side of Lagos; we want you to go on our train rides, boat rides. We want you to discover your home and be able to tell the world the Lagos story you’ve seen,” Sanwo-Olu added.

Jubril Gawat, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a post on X on Monday, confirmed Pelumi donated the car she used for the trip to the Lagos State Government.

He wrote: Welcome Pelumi Nubi @peluminubi_, Our Brand New Lagos Ambassador, She gets a brand new car from Governor @jidesanwoolu, A new home in Lagos, a customised plate number, and one more thing, she is donating her vehicle (the one she used for the trip) to our Brand New J Randle Center for Yoruba Culture and History as monumental gift to Lagos State.”

On Tuesdayy, January 23, 2023, former president Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, in Lagos.
