The Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Salisu Abubakar, has distanced himself from the purported endorsement of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Isa Ashiru Kudan.

He stated this during a press conference held in Kaduna on Wednesday.

According to him, his party has never contemplated any agreement to endorse or call on their supporters to vote for the PDP. He stressed that some greedy elements went to meet the PDP candidate without the knowledge and consent of the party.

Abubakar said the desperation was obvious by the manner in which they went about it and condemned the act in its entirety as fraudulent and insulting to the NRM’s character and leaning.

The NRM governorship candidate, however, threw his support behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Uba Sani, based on the party’s conviction that he is the best for the people of the state and for the continuation of the best legacies that would be bequeathed to him.

“Senator Uba Sani is an activist who fought alongside other comrades to restore democracy in Nigeria in the dark days of the military junta.

“He is, therefore, someone who has paid his dues for democracy to take its root in the Nigerian spirit. He is urbane and highly detribalised, and we believe his administration will solidify unity and a snap of purpose for the state.

“We have carefully studied the political activities of Uba Sani right from the time he was appointed Special Adviser Political to the President during the tenure of His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo, where he performed with merits without making noise. He is a silent achiever who would rather work and let his actions speak for him.

“We have outgrown sentiments to base our support on primordial grounds. Our support for UBA SANI is objective and unconditional. We withdraw from him in order that he will continue on the path of growth and development set for our children who are growing under this atmosphere shall grow to reap from the deep sense of foresight and planning for the future which the APC government is doing,” he stated.
