Dangote partners NAICOM on building safety, insurance

Dangote Industries Limited, DIL, has sponsored a conference organized by the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, to engender compliance with Insurance of public buildings and buildings under construction.

 

 

The conference, held in Abuja, themed “Redefining Safety: Insurance Solutions for Public Buildings and Buildings under Construction”highlighted the synopsis of Insurance and Technology, the launching of the Insurance Industry Strategic Plan, and the Guidelines for Insurances of Government Assets.

 

Concerned by the menace of the Collapse Buildings in the Country, Dangote Industries Limited, DIL had early in the year unveiled plans to set up a block makers’ Academy to address the problem.

The Academy, to be structured and equipped, is to impart the needed skills to block makers and artisans in the real estate sector.

The company said the Academy will move Block making forward and reduce colossal loss of lives and property occasioned by building collapse, check quackery in the industry, and improve the economy.

 

It said the block moulders would be empowered with the necessary machineries and tools to enhance their skills.

 

Emir of Kano, Dr. Ado Bayero, said the insurance conference was apt and urged the convergence of Insurance stakeholders to network and share innovative ideas towards finding lasting solutions to the problems.

Theme paper presenter and Group chairman, of Heirs Holding, Tony Elumelu, advocated increased awareness of Insurance at all levels of acceptability.

 

The Speaker , the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas said, “The conference centre on two major sections of the Insurance Act, 2023 (Sections 64 and 65) which emphasizes the provision of succour to the third parties who are victims of coming in contact with the insured property

 

“And the driving motive for making Insurances compulsory is because it is unconscionable and insensitive to leave a visitor who lawfully has the right of ingress or egress to a Building Under Construction or a Public Building to suffer a loss without compensation to him/her or his/ family”

 

Represented by Hon. Ahmed Jaha, he said the 10th National Assembly and the executive would commit to a symbiotic working relationship to protect the lives and property of Nigerians and all nationals in the country while enhancing a robust economy.
