CSO Threatens To Shut EDTSMA’s Office Over Illegal Towing Of Vehicles, Speaks On State Of The Nation

Edo Civil Society Organistions (EDOCSO) has, once again, threatened to shut down office of the Edo State Traffic Management Agency should its (EDSTMA) personnel tow vehicle of its members in places with ‘no parking’ sign.

Recall that INFO DAILY had reported that the human rights organistions wrote EDSTMA where its demanded a stop to what it termed “indiscriminate towing of vehicles” in the state.

EDOCSO said towing vehicles in areas with no warning sign of ‘no parking’ amounts to injustice, lack of fairness, oppression, immorality and extortion.

In a meeting held on Saturday in Benin by the organistions wherein affiliates organistions and study centres of EDOCSO were all in attendance, The Executive Council (TEC) interim chairman, Bishop Osadolor Ochei, said if EDSTMA continues its towing of vehicles in areas with no sign of ‘no parking’ the human rights organisations will be left with no option than to close EDSTMA’s head office.

Bishop Ochei who addressed a large number of members on activities of the organisations and why there was seems to be break on the organistions activities, noted that EDSTMA used to be very upright in the past but because of money they have deviated.

“Money is the root of all evil. They have deviated from their selfless service to the public and started on how they can make money.

“If you look at the whole city, there is no place marked ‘no parking’ yet if you park your vehicle, before you return in short period, your vehicle would have been towed. And when they tow your vehicle, and they discovered you were not wrong, they will ask you to pay for the towing van. Apparently, there are some persons that are making money out of this.

“We have written to them that towing vehicles where has no sign of no parking is an oppression, and that if they must tow vehicles, they should place signs in such areas. If no sign and they tow any of our members’ vehicle, we will close their office,” he declared.

Bishop Ochei who cautioned members not to go and unnecessarily violate traffic rules because the organistions has issued warning to EDSTMA, urged them to be upright in whatsoever they do.

Speaking on state of the nation, the interim TEC Chairman lamented that the Nigeria nation is heading to anarchy as a result of “nepotism, bigotry – religious and ethnic on the part of Mr President.”

Bishop Ochei who said the statistics of death as a result of banditry, kidnapping, etc from January to this month is alarming and worrisome, said because of the insecurity people are now scared to travel and those who have to travel have to embark on fasting and prayers.

The interim TEC Chairman said the organistions will soon come up with a formal statement and make its position known to the public on state of the nation.
