Communal Clash: Council Boss Calls For Calm, Task Communities To Eschew Violence

The Caretaker Chairman of Kwande Local Government Council, Rev Fr Mark Teryila Hule has urged the people of Mbaaa and Mbakyar communities both in Mbaibier, Morov in Mbaketsa Council Ward to remain calm and eschew peace for the overall development of the area.

This was revealed in a statement issued by the council spokesperson, Ahundu Joseph Ahundu.

According to Ahundu, the Chairman made the call during his tour assessment visit in the area on the 12th January, 2024 after the clash that started at the wake keep of Mama Agnes Iorsula Kwaghbo in The Genda Mbakyar, between youth of the both communities that led to the stabbing to death of a 20 years old Master LUTOR SAMUEL who is from Mbakyar, an incident that triggered the massive destruction in Mbaaa community by the Mbakyar aggrieved youth.

He said, the Council helmsman expressed dismay over the killing of the innocent boy as he paid condolence visit to the deceased family and promised that the perpetrator of the ugly incident will arrested and persecuted, He frowned at the high level of destruction of properties worth millions of Naira over an issue that would have been prevented.

According to the statement, “the Caretaker Chairman noted that no society or nation will develop in an atmosphere of rancour and confusion, hence the need for the aggrieved parties to embrace peace and tolerate one another.

” Please I beg all of you to sheath your swords, tolerate one another and embrace peace.

” As no community will achieve meaningful progress and development without unity and peace.

” Look at the level of destruction of Food items, houses and other properties worth millions of naira, it is unfortunate and uncalled for.

” I condemned the act in its entirety, especially now that His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia is being up and doing in promoting peace and security as well developing the state,” he added.

He said, the Council Boss urged the people of the area whom he described as “one family” and other people in the local government to always report their grievances to the appropriate authorities.

He said, Rev. Fr. Hule has assured the people of the Local and State Government commitment in ensuring that normalcy return to the community as already Mobile Police Officers are deployed across the area.

He said, he called on the people of the two communities to eschew all forms of bitterness for the overall development of the area and the state at large, the Council helmsman also assured the affected people of government intervention.
