The President of AAAN, Mr Abiodun S. Okunola stated this in a statement to mark the 2024 International Women’s Day.

According to him as alumni of Australian institutions, they understand that Education not only enhances women’s capabilities but also uplifts entire communities.

Mr Okunola emphasized that women’s empowerment and support in the external and internal activities ensure seamless participation of women members in everything we do.

Okunola added that this year’s theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” underscores the crucial role of investing in women and girls to drive social, economic, and political advancement, saying when we invest in women, we invest in the future of our communities and our nation.

Therefore, he called upon governments, businesses, and civil society to prioritize investments in education and skill-building programs for women and girls.

“Furthermore, economic empowerment is key to advancing gender equality. Women entrepreneurs play a vital role in driving economic growth and innovation.”

“As such, we urge increased support for women-owned businesses through access to finance, mentorship, and market opportunities.”

“Additionally, creating an inclusive and enabling environment is essential for women to thrive in all sectors. This includes addressing barriers such as gender-based violence, discrimination, and unequal representation in leadership positions.”

“It is imperative that we work towards dismantling these barriers to ensure equal opportunities for all. On this International Women’s Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment. Let us pledge to invest in women and girls, not only for their benefit but for the advancement of our society as a whole.”

“As the Australian Alumni Association of Nigeria, we remain dedicated to promoting gender equality and supporting initiatives that empower women and girls. Together, let us accelerate progress towards a more inclusive and equitable world.” He said.
