You can’t stop election in Rivers, Wike dares APC

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that the All Progressives Congress does not have the capacity to stop elections from holding in the state.

Wike expressed dissatisfaction over the threat by the state APC that there would be no election if members of the party, who were delisted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, were not relisted.

Some APC national and state houses of assembly candidates in Rivers State had warned that there would be no House of Assembly, House of Representatives and senatorial elections in the state should INEC refuse to publish their names as qualified candidates to run for the polls.

But the state governor cautioned the APC members that nobody had monopoly of violence, and advised them to face the consequences of their disrespect for the rule of law.

Wike, who spoke during the PDP campaign rally in Akinima, Ahoada West LGA, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to caution members of the APC in Rivers State, adding that should there be no election in Rivers State this year, there will be no election in Nigeria.

He said, “The APC cannot stop the elections from holding in Rivers State.  They think they have monopoly of violence. They are engaged in internal fighting and they should face the consequences of their disrespect for the rule of law.

“I call on the President to caution members of his party in Rivers State. They should stop threatening us that there will be no elections. If there is no election in Rivers State, then there will be no election across the country.”

The governor explained that the Niger Delta region was facing “total neglect” by the APC-led Federal Government under the leadership of President Buhari.

He pointed out that Buhari, through deliberate manipulation, refused to fund major projects across the Niger Delta region.

“Even though the Niger Delta produces the wealth of the nation, there is no funding of projects in the area.

“Look at the East-West Road, no serious attempt has been made to fund the project.

“All other projects in the area have been abandoned; instead, few projects are found in the North and South-West,” Wike urged the people of Ahoada West Local Government Area to vote for Atiku Abubakar so as to address the developmental challenges of the Niger Delta region.  Wike also stated that unlike the APC, the PDP was built on the fulfilment of promises and the enhancement of the welfare of the people.

“When the PDP makes a promise, it goes ahead to fulfil the promise. Everywhere in Nigeria, people are voting for the PDP because they keep their promises,” he said.

The governor pointed out that the APC would not be allowed to create cattle grazing routes in Rivers State.
