Task force impounds timber truck in Ekiti

The Anti-grazing, General Marshal Task Force Enforcement in Ekiti State has arrested a truck laden with logs of timber along Ikole-Osin Road.

Coordinator of the task force, Mr Sola Durodola, said the truck conveying multi-million naira economic trees which were felled illegally, had been impounded at a police station in the area.

Durodola, who made the arrest during an inspecting tour of some sawmills and plank markets in some parts of the state, cautioned those violating forestry laws in the state “to desist or face the full wrath of the law”.

The Task Force head, while speaking with timber contractors at Gbonyin and Ado council areas of the state, cautioned them against illegal felling of trees.

He said, “It is regrettable that the laws guiding forestry are being recklessly flouted, leading to depletion in forests and exposure to ecological disaster. You have to obey laws guiding forestry in the state with a view to safeguard and boost the economy of the state”.

Some timber contractors, who spoke during the visit, thanked the task force boss on the visit with a promise to always obey laws guiding forestry in the state.
