Southern Kaduna attackers crossed bridge manned by soldiers, SOKAPU alleges

THE Southern Kaduna Peoples Union has said that over 20 of its kinsmen, including a pregnant woman, were killed in one single night in four villages of Chawai Chiefdom in the Kauru Local Government of Kaduna State.

The four villages were Ungwan Magali, Kigam, Kisico and Kikoba in the Kauru LGA.

The umbrella body of the Southern Kaduna peoples also alleged that the attackers crossed a bridge well-manned by soldiers at Bakin Kogi market town and invaded neighbouring Apiababun village in Atyap Chiefdom Zangon Kataf LGA.

The SOKAPU’s spokesman, Luka Binniyat, stated this in a statement in Kaduna on Wednesday.

Binniyat also said that several houses were razed and farmland destroyed by the attackers.

The statement read in part, “Less than 24 hours after assailants invaded four Chawai villages in Chawai Chiefdom, Kauru LGA in Southern Kaduna and killed over 20 persons in a single night, the attackers crossed a bridge well manned by soldiers at Bakin Kogi market town and invaded neighbouring Apiababun village in Atyap Chiefdom, Zangon Kataf LGA. They killed a heavily pregnant woman, her two children and two children of her husband’s brother.

“Unguwan Magaji, which had suffered three previous attacks and killings from 2014, recorded eight deaths, while 75 homes were burnt, 37 farms, among others were destroyed.

“In Kigam, which has also suffered similar fate with Anguwan Magaji, six persons were killed and 52 homes burnt. In Kishoho, six persons were killed and 37 homes burnt. The violence in Kikoba claimed six persons, three critically injured, 12 houses burnt and 31 farms ravished by the attackers.”

The Kaduna State Police Command had yet to confirm the latest casualties, even as the spokesman for the Command, Mohammed Jalige, did not take our correspondent’s call.

Troops avert attack on Zangon Kataf, arrest one suspect.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr. Samuel Aruwan said in a statement on Wednesday that troops of Operation Safe Haven averted another attack on Magamiya village of Zangon-Kataf Local Government area of the state.

Aruwan said, “One of the attackers identified as Yusuf Aliyu was arrested by the troops and is in custody for interrogation and further investigation.

A resident, Shedrach Yohanna, was hit on his left arm by a stray bullet during the attempted attack. He is receiving treatment and is in stable condition. PUNCH
