A group under the auspice of Youth Progressive Initiative in the North has urged the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all senators-elect for the 10th Senate to support the candidature of Senator Godswill Akpabio, as next Senate President of Nigeria.

The President of the group, Hon Usman Shehu Aliyu, asserted this during a press conference held in Kaduna on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

According to him, Akpabio, who is the ‘Dan Amanan Azara’ of Nasarawa State, was more deserving for the purpose of national unity and fairness.

Hon Aliyu maintained that Akpabio, being a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, former Senate Minority Leader, and a former minister, is very experienced and qualified for the President of the Senate.

In addition, Senator Akpabio has contributed immensely to the success of the APC presidential primaries last year, where he was the first presidential aspirant to step down and throw his support behind Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a situation that reduced the tension at the APC presidential primaries.

The president of the group, therefore, described Akpabio as an uncommon leader who always stands for the people, irrespective of their ethnic and religious affiliations.

The Youth Progressive Initiative thanked Nigerians for their support and patriotism before and after the 2023 general elections.

“We praise the President-elect for vocally expressing his wish for equity, justice and fairness to all Nigerians irrespective of region, religion, tribe or ethnicity.

“The Youth Progressive Initiative in the North align and endorse the choice of Senator Godswill Akpabio as the 10th president of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Senator Jibril Barau as the deputy president of the 10th Senate,” he said.
