Security: Operation ‘Thunder Strike’ Kills 17 Armed Bandits In Kaduna

A joint clearance operation carried out by troops of Operations THUNDER STRIKE and WHIRL PUNCH with air support from the Air Component of Operation GAMA AIKI has led to the death of 17 bandits at Mashigi Galbi Damba, kabarasha villagers all in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State.

Some of the bandits however, escaped with gun shot wounds, the Military said Monday.

The operation, which took place on May 7, 2020 was in continuation of the exercise to rid Kaduna State of armed bandits as well as other criminal elements.

This was disclosed in a statement by Defence Headquarters on Monday, said in the course of pursuing the bandits at their suspected hideout, three empty houses and a church building were partially damaged at Kabarasha village.

The Military said no Civilian was killed in the process.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria regrets this unfortunate incident and  a panel has been set up to investigate the occurrence in liaison with the Kaduna State Government.

” The buildings have been identified with a view to providing adequate compensation to the owners,” the Defence Headquarters said.

According to the coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, normalcy has been restored to the area as few people who initially fled due to fear of bandits reprisal attack, have all returned to the community.

“The High Command of the Armed Forces of Nigeria hereby reassure the general public that it will continue to work assiduously to restore peace and security to the North West.

” It equally thanks the general public for their support and cooperation, while encouraging them to continue to provide credible information that will facilitate the operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
