Robbers on motorcycle attack Rivers PoS operator, cart away N.9m

An armed gang has reportedly robbed a Point of Sale operator of a sum of N900,000 in Nkpolu community on East-West Road, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the robbers had gone to the PoS stand at Second Bay Junction around 4pm on Friday, shooting into the air before dispossessing the operator of the sum.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, claimed to be a neighbour of the victim. He said he narrowly escaped being shot by the hoodlums when he came out, thinking that the gun was fired by policemen.

He said, “I am a fast-food seller. My neighbour was attacked. When I heard the gunshot, I came out of my shop, thinking it was policemen that were having an encounter with bad boys.

“I saw a motorcycle rider and one other man with a rifle. When he pointed it at me, I had to run for my life. I noticed that they are not officers. They are armed robbers. They later zoomed off. They made away with my neighbour’s money; About N900,000.”

However, our correspondent gathered that the criminals were later rounded up by a local security outfit and handed over to the police.

The spokesperson for the police in the state, SP Nnamdi Omoni, said he had yet to get a report on the incident. He promised to find out and get back to our correspondent. He had, however, yet to do so as of the time of filing this report.
