NLC Boss: We Will Resist Any Attempt To Lay Off Workers Without Reaching Social Dialogue

The National President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Waba has said that, they would resist all attempt by many industries who have tried to used the excuse of Covid-19 to laid off workers without reaching to the processes of social dialogue.

He stated this while addressing journalist during the first Central Working Committee meeting between NLC and ULC.

Waba said that, they have actually resisted that and that was part of what they would be looking at during the meeting.

According to him, the meeting was timely especially at a period where across different sectors are going through a difficult challenges.

Promising that they are going to make far reaching pronouncement especially to the extent that they would engaged employers of labour that have tried to undermine the fundamental human right of workers, including state governors.

“Remember we have written to two state governors, one have responded, and one have not been able to respond and we are going to take them head long.

” We believed that people must be descent and must respect the rule of law, especially people of highq authority because we cannot undermine our laws and undermine the interest of Nigerian workers and fold our hands and continue to lament.

“So its time for action and proceeding with thus actions we thought that its important we consult our organs and then we will be able to come out with far reaching decisions that will be able to address the fundamental issues that is affecting Nigerian workers and pensioners”. He stressed.

The NLC President said that, they would receive report from their Unions and also from States so that they would prioritise some of the engagement that they would be able to take immediately and the ones in the mid time and also the long time plans

Saying that it is a cheering news for Nigerian workers and would continue to work together and to also protect their interest.
