Nigeria On The Verge Of Being Confirmed Wild Polio Free Nation.

According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria in 2012, accounted for more than half of all polio cases worldwide.

As expected, the federal government in collaboration with it’s partners initiated strategies key of which is strengthening existing vaccination coverage and quality surveillance aimed at addressing the challenge.

The good news however, is that the interventions paid off with the country recording zero outbreak of polio and other vaccine preventable diseases in the last 3 years.

Addressing the media, the Executive Secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuaib said it is not yet Uhuru, as all hands must be on deck to further strengthen existing intervention strategies.

Other speakers at the ceremony including the World Health Organization representative to Nigeria, Peter Clement lauded the gesture saying Nigeria is at the verge of being certified as wild polio virus free.

With development, Nigeria is expected to summit it’s final country data for evaluation in march 2020 after which the process of being confirmed wild polio free would commence.
