Muller rues missed chances against England

Thomas Muller admitted his horror miss in Germany’s defeat by England at Euro 2020 ‘hurts like hell’, and he has painfully reflected on letting down his team-mates, coach and supporters.

The veteran was slotted through on goal after a mistake from Raheem Sterling, who scored the opening goal of the clash at Wembley, and raced towards Jordan Pickford with the net at mercy.

Unbelievably, however, Muller could only roll inches wide of the far post – and the moment proved costly with Harry Kane doubling the Three Lions’ lead soon after to spark pandemonium.

Muller has taken to social media to share his thoughts on firing wide.

“This is the moment that gets stuck in your head and keeps you up at night,” he wrote.

“The moment you work for, train for and live for as a footballer.

“The moment when it’s all in your hands, when you can bring your team back into the game and send a whole football nation into ecstasy.

“Getting this chance and missing it hurts like hell. It hurts to let down my team-mates and coach, who put all of their trust in me.”
