Romelu Lukaku has overtaken N’Golo Kante as the highest-paid player at Chelsea having completed his move £97.5million from Inter Milan worth £200,000 a week after tax.
Lukaku was a Chelsea supporter growing up so he feels he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
He feels he didn’t do himself justice before at Chelsea, where his strained relationship with Andre Villas-Boas made life difficult for him and he did not get a real chance to prove himself.
He was happy at Inter and was not planning on leaving this summer but Chelsea’s interest and Inter’s financial problems mean the deal suits all parties.
Chelsea turned to Lukaku after they failed to convince Borussia Dortmund to sell Erling Haaland this summer. Thomas Tuchel personally asked for Lukaku and he believes Chelsea have bought one of the most complete forwards in world football.
Lukaku’s agent Federico Pastorello played a key role in the transfer ensuring that Inter received their €115m asking price and Chelsea got the No. 9 they wanted.
