Group (BHG) To Creates Tiv Cultural Museum in Benue

A social-cultural and Fitness Nongovernmental Organization, Benue Hike group (BHG), has seeks creation of a Tiv cultural Museum as well as hall of fame in Benue state.

Leader of the group, Mr. Tersoo Akula, stated this when he paid an advocacy visit to the Commissioner of Information, Orientation and Culture, Mrs Ngunan Addingi, recently in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

He said, Benue Hike Group creatively combines fun, history as a pathway to explore the rich tradition, culture and history of the Tiv people.

He also said the group also promotes tourism, environmental sustainability and friendship for all people.

The Convener said that, BHG was in her office to introduced the activities of the group to the commissioner, in order to seek for collaboration and partnership for their 2020 event tagged “The Search of the indyer I Tiv and the Ityu I Ikyor”.

According to him, the group also came to ask the ministry for a space where they can create a Tiv cultural Museum as well as hall of fame.

He hinted that more than 400 people have participated in the groups activities with zero casualties.

He also noted that the group takes security and safety of hikers very seriously.

The convener also reemphasis the need for a museum, and a hall of fame as an effective way to document history which according to him is being eroded by the agents of modernism and weak documentation strategies.

He notify the ministry about the 2020 search which will take place at the beautiful Mt. Mtor, Atsonka Abado, Ikyov Ushongo LGA.

Urging the Ministry to be a partner to the event.

Responding, commissioner, of Information, Orientation and Culture, Mr. Ngunan Addingi, thanked the team for the visit and appreciated their creativity.

She stated the commitment of the ministry and the Ortom’s administration to put Benue on the tourism map of Nigeria.

She assured that the ministry will continue to support initiatives that are in line with its mandate and objectives.

She pledged the ministry commitment to,

1. Provide space for the group to house the museum and Hall of fame.

2. Agreed to partner with the group . Waived the charge on the right of the usage of the ministry’s logo.

3. Ensure the participation of the ministry at the event. She asked the convener to register her as a participant.

She however advised the group to align the date of the event with other events to avoid clash so as many people as they possible can participate.

She thanked them for the visit and also promised mutual cooperation between them.
