Euro 2020: England, Germany, two others battle for quarter-final spot

The quarter-final pairings of the ongoing European Championships will be confirmed today, The PUNCH reports.

Spain, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Denmark, Belgium and Italy have all qualified for the quarter-finals, while in one of the pairings for Tuesday (today) England will take on Germany in a blockbuster at the Wembley stadium.

The Three Lions’ history in final tournament knockout matches against Germany – no wins since 1966 – is well documented. So, too Gareth Southgate’s own personal history, with that Euro ’96 semi-final penalty heartache.

Ukraine and Sweden will slug it out for the other spot in the quarter-final today.

Meanwhile, three of the pairings have been confirmed with Spain taking on Switzerland.

Both countries were involved in an eight-goal thriller on Monday, with Spain emerging 5-3 winners.

Belgium play Italy for a place in the semi-finals. The Red Devils eliminated Portugal by a lone goal, while Roberto Mancini’s men sent Austria packing.

Czech Republic will face Denmark in their quarter-final encounter.
