Elizade varsity gets VC

The Board of Trustees of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, has approved the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olukayode Amund, on the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council.

According to a statement by the university, Amund, 65, is the third substantive vice-chancellor of the school.

It said the new VC attended the University of Lagos, where he graduated with First Class honours in Microbiology in June, 1977. He proceeded to Cranfield Institute of Technology (now Cranfield University), United Kingdom for a PhD programme in Biotechnology and graduated in October, 1982.

Amund, the statement added, joined the services of the University of Lagos in 1978 as a graduate assistant and rose through the ranks to become a professor of Microbiology in 1998 with specialty in Petroleum/Environmental Microbiology.

He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, United Kingdom, Institute of Policy Management Development and the African Academy of Science, Nairobi.

Until his appointment as the vice-chancellor of Elizade, Amund was the Director, Distance Learning Institute of the University of Lagos.

He has also held several administrative positions within the university system. He was the foundation vice-chancellor of Wesley University of Science and Technology, Ondo.
