Clergy urges youth to strive for Excellence

The Senior Pastor of House of Purpose Ministry, U/Sunday, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Apostle Yakubu Yusuf, has called on Christians, especially the youth, to exhibit an Excellent Spirit in all areas of their lives.

The cleric gave the advice at the 2023 Purpose Youth Convention with the theme “Excellent Spirit” held in Kaduna on 30th April 2023.

Teaching on the subject ‘Spirit of Excellence,’ Apostle Yakubu described distinction as “excellence that sets someone apart from others; distinction for every believer will be based on honour and son-ship”.

Reading from the book of Luke 1:3, the clergy said divine Purpose gives divine order, and an excellent Spirit produces good characters.

He, therefore, urged Christians to place much value on the things of God and develop good characters to stand out.

According to Apostle Yakubu, the Spirit of Excellence is characterized by the presence of God in a person’s life, protection, open door, financial breakthrough, prominence, among others.

He expressed dismay that God is always ready to open good doors for men, but most times such doors are closed because of bad character.

According to him, character can be a collection of personality traits within one behavior that shows who they are, saying this is seen in their integrity, attitudes, moral fiber, disposition, and how they treat those around them.

“Although this is true, the character has to go much deeper than that. Character is who we are because of our relationship with Christ.

“It is something that can be built and learned as we follow Him. Furthermore, genuine Christian character is not just about our personality or our disposition.

“It is a description of who we are as Christians – and what we are called to be in our entirety. It encapsulates the fruit of the Spirit,” he said.

In his remarks, the President of Purpose Youth, Lawrence Peter Gambo, called on youths to inculcate the culture of reading the Holy Bible for spiritual edification and shun vices that could hamper their relationship with God.

He said this year’s theme was carefully selected because of the lukewarm attitudes exhibited by Christians, especially the youth, and it is also a wake-up call for them.
