CDS Organises Third Edition of Half Marathon Championship to Solidify Existing Relationship Among Military, Security Agencies.

In order to foster the existing relationship between the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country, the Chief of Defence Staff has organized the Third Edition of Half Marathon Championship in Abuja the Nigeria’s capital.

The Nigerian Chief of Defence Staff, General Aboyemi Gabriel Olonisakin disclosed this in Abuja during the Third Edition of 2019 Half Marathon Championship.

Olonisakin said “the event came at the right time when good working relationship is needed by the military and other Security agencies to tackle security challenges facing the country”.


He said “the ability of sports and competition cannot be over emphasized in strengthening friendship and unity among the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country”.

The National Adviser, who was the Special Guest of Honour, Babagana Mogonu noted that the commitment to physical fitness and mental alertness of various security agencies would help to curb security challenges facing the country. Mononu urged all to embrace the spirit of the game.

The Chairman Organising Committee, Commodore Nuhu Bala expressed his appreciation to the service chiefs and all the participants for the success of the Marathon.

Eleven security agencies featured in the Marathon which include the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Civil Defence, Immigration, Customs and others.

Cars, trophies, cash prizes, deep freezers, DSTV decorders and medals were eon by participants.

Highlights of the events were the presence of the Chief of Defence Staff who organized the marathon, the National Adviser. who was the Special Guest of Honour, Babagana Mogonu, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukuru Buratai, who was one of the participants, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadiq Sbubakar and Ag Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu amongst others.
