Buhari’s Absence at COAS funeral: ELFON Counsel Nigerians

The absence of President Muhammadu Buhari at the funeral of General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers of the Nigerian Military has kept some uninformed Nigerians busy on social media, especially Twitter where they are relentlessly expressing their different degrees of ignorance as stated by the National President of the Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria(ELFON); Amb. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel in a Youth summit in Karu on Saturday.

The ELFON president took his time to educate Nigerians, noting that for a President to be at any funeral or event outside the presidential villa, it must have at least 48 hours for intelligence operatives to do surveillance and clearance before the President can go based on the Security report.

“In a case where the Chief of Army Staff and his team died yesterday and had to be hurriedly buried today, you don’t expect the President to go there where there is no security clearance having noticed that the minimum time of 48 hours for security scrutiny wasn’t achievable. Our fellow Emerging Leaders who are into security services have affirmed that in insecurity parlance, funeral ceremonies are where politically exposed persons face more risks”, Godstime expressed.

He further noted that Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan could attend Azazi’s burial because it wasn’t done within 24 hours.

“Security issues and securing the president are not done by emotions or sentiments. There’re laid down procedures that must be followed. Nigerian Youths and Nigerians shouldn’t sit down in their comfort zones and write what they want, because they have access to internet.

Common sense should have informed Nigerians that the President of Nigeria is not a boys brigade commander. We are in troubling times, everyone must be careful even as we mourn.

Instead of using social media to promote anarchy, fake news and disunity, Nigerian Youths and indeed all Nigerians should use social media as a platform for the promotion of peace and unity of our dear country; Nigeria.

All hands must get busy towards making Nigeria a better, united state where justice, equity,fairplay, development and progress shall reign. Youths must stop being associated with shared ignorance forthwith. May the souls of the departed patriots rest in Peace”, Godstime concluded.
