Buhari in Bauchi, Yuguda, Muazu, others pledge loyalty

President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to prosecute corrupt individuals in the country.

He also said he would ensure peace, fight corruption and improve the economy if elected for another term.

Buhari said these during the All Progressives Congress presidential campaign rally at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, on Saturday.

The President said, “This leadership that God has given me that you have also believed in us and given us your support, we will keep the promise and ensure that Nigerians sleep with their eyes closed.

“The promise that we make is that we will pursue peace because without peace, nothing will work.

“We will not cheat you and we will not allow anyone cheat you. Those who have cheated you, we will follow due process and prosecute them until they return all they stole so it will be used to better your lives.”

Buhari said  a lot had been achieved  in the fight against corruption  by his government.

He said  when he was the military Head of State, he arrested the then President (Shehu Shagari), his deputy (Alex Ekwueme)  and their ministers over corruption issues.

He said they were forced to explain how they got their  wealth.

Buhari added,  “Two Nigerians, Alhaji  Biliyaminu Othman, Minister of State for Education,  and  Adamu Chiroma, the CBN Governor and Minister of State for Finance, spared us the shame and they had no corruption cases against them.”

The President added that it turned out that he too was arrested and locked up and “the country was then handed over to those who destroyed it”.

He said, “That was why I returned to become President and know what is in there and know what the country gets.”

Buhari said in 2015, God answered his prayers and gave him victory, having failed to win the 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential polls.

He said, “I want the people to think, from the time we took over till now, what we have done and what came to us, this will tell you that we have upheld the trust you gave us. This we will continue to do.”

Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Abubakar called on voters in the state to vote massively for the APC candidates in the general elections.
