Bad Economy is responsible for high cost of motor spare parts, says dealer

The high cost of motor spare parts has been attributed to bad Economy presently being  experienced in the country.
This disclosure was made by Mr. Omoruyi Odiase, Chairman, New Motor  Spare Parts Market, Evbareke Quarters, in an interview with the Groovewatch Magazine in Benin City.
He said the bad Economy situation in the country has drastically reduced the number of importers which has resulted in the sharp price increase of the motor parts.
“Covid-19 Pandemic also contributed. If you do not have enough money you cannot import goods. Business was closed for a long period”.
He further explained the problems being faced by the importers. According to him, “After spending so much money to clear their goods at the custom offices. They are still made to pay to customs on Lagos to Benin high way while coming with their containers. With payment here and there could make the price of motor parts expensive for the motorists”.
The Chairman said they have no alternative than to sell as they equally buy, in order to get their profit. He also said that there are high and low grades among the parts, adding that they sometimes advice those customers who cannot afford high grades to go for lower ones which he said can also serve them for some period.
The Chairman expressed their union’s gratitude to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki for the rehabilitation of Textile Mill Road, and appealed to him to also help to rehabilitate the roads sorounding the market.
