Ahead of e-platform switch over, Edo govt. commence onboarding of permanent secretaries

Benin, Feb. 3, 2022 (NAN) The Edo government has commenced the onboarding of old and the newly sworn-in permanent secretaries ahead of the Feb. 1, 2022 switch over from analogue to e-governance by Gov. Godwin Obaseki administration.

The Managing Director of Edo Information Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), Mr Goodluck Igbinedion, said that his agency is in charge of the onboarding programme to help train permanent secretaries to achieve the governor’s goal in e-governance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that governor Obaseki promised to switch over from analogue to e-governance while Swearing-in 14 new permanent secretaries at the New Festival Hall, Government House.

According to Igbinedion, “The training today is centered on Microsoft Word, excel, power point, video conferencing tools and basic computer appreciation.

“You know that technology is the bedrock of every transformation, is the engine room that drives every transformation and that is why we are here. Our digital governor, His Excellency the executive governor of Edo State, Mr Godwin Obaseki has promised Edo citizens that he is going to be the last governor that will sign a paper memo.

“The journey has started, that is why we are here today and it has to start from the top, that is why we are here today to train our permanent secretaries to make sure they have all the tools, the skills and the knowledge to drive digital transformation.

“Tomorrow is going to be when they are going to be trained on EdoGOV; EdoGOV is an initiative that we just launched, and it’s going to make civil service work paperless, and that will be enough to bring them on board into the digital world of today”, he said.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary ministry of Environment, Mr Lucky Wasa, said that the onboarding workshop for old and new permanent secretaries would help them fit into the new age.

Wasa assured that the programme is very apt and they will be to fit into the Making Edo Great Again of the present administration.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary, Mr Toju Onaiwu, said that onboarding training is a very good initiative by Gov. Godwin Obaseki led administration which has brought them to a higher responsibility.

“This is a very good initiative by Edo State Government, in descend that you are bringing people to a very high responsibility and you ensuing that those people have the resources to do the job that they are supposed to do and to do it very, very well.

“We have gone through many aspects of up scaling, to enable us perform at the highest level that is demanded of us. It is a very good initiative by the state government to carry on with this onboarding programme for us”, he said.

On his part, Permanent Secretary/Chairman Pension Bureau, Mr Washington Abbe, said that the training would avail some of them who are newly sworn-in permanent secretaries on integrity on the job.

“The training has greatly empowered us on what is expected of us on how we should go about the job and how to carry those who are below us and my appreciation goes to God and Edo State governor for availing us this opportunity”, he said (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
