AFCON: Nwakali cautions Super Eagles against contracting COVID-19

Huesca midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has cautioned his teammates in the Super Eagles against contracting COVID-19 during the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

Nwakali said this in an interview with NFF TV.

He said, “It’s not like before like we normally watch on television.

“I think because of the Covid, a lot of things have been restricted, and you need to observe or respect the protocols of Covid because, in as much as we are trying to entertain everybody, we can not also fall victim to the situation in the world now.

“Even in the club side football, you can see that not a lot of clubs allow fans to come and watch because of the Covid-19.

“But it is what it is, so we have to enjoy the moment and take it how it is.”

Nwakali has made two substitute appearances at the tournament, playing 35 minutes so far at the tournament.

Nwakali, a late inclusion in the Eagles final squad, had said he’s hopeful of making history in Cameroon.

Nigeria had eased into the Round of 16 as group leaders, with a match to spare, courtesy of the wins over Egypt and Sudan in their two matches and the combination of other results, notably Egypt’s defeat of Guinea Bissau on Saturday.

Despite that, the team defeated Guinea Bissau 2-0 to record 100 per cent victory in their group stage.

Nwakali started the game against Guinea-Bissau.

Eguavoen, 56, is the only man to have coached Nigeria to win all three matches in the group phase of the AFCON since the country started participating at this level since 1963.
